Developing reliable and valid questionnaires: Zita Unger

This workshop is designed for people responsible in constructing questionnaires or those who wish to extend their experience with item construction. Overall, practical “how to” aspects of developing good questionnaires will be emphasised.

Employing mini-lecture, hands on exercises, and discussion, this workshop will focus on developing reliable and valid questionnaires and survey instruments. We will explore different types of survey items and how to write quality questions. Participants receive reference material including sample surveys, best practice item writing tips, checklists, glossary, and resources for further information.

Participants will learn:

•  approaches to constructing instruments and the pros and cons of each approach;
•  various answer formats;
•  how to write quality survey items; and
•  best practice for increasing reliability and validity.
